Why some college students feel that they need more sleep?


I sleep around 10-11 pm and wake up @ 6. Is that enough sleep? I always try to runaway from my homework and end up doing in last moment even though home work is easy because I think I feel sleepy but I don't sleep. I feel my life is completly blank. Sometimes I feel my brain need a whole barrel of oil to work. I feel like I don't want anything from my life, but my brain says I must get as much wealth as I can get. When I work on any task I just want to work on that particular task and if something distract me I get lost. Besides that, I feel more energized when somebody in my class try to compete with me at same time try to work together with me. What's goin on in my life?

in the real world you can get by on as little as 5 hours a night.

7-8 hours is plenty of sleep... Students get tired when they try to mix a social life with the daily life of school...

It sounds like you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep and that is a good amount. Perhaps you are suffering from depression and have lost the drive to do some things and lacking motivation and energy. see a doctor. Depression can cause all this, lack of sleep or increased sleep. You could also take something like Adderoll to help you gain energy and concentrate better. Only your doctor can decide and diagnose you but if you feel this is getting worse, definately see a dr asap!

I'm usually tired all the time...that doesn't stop me from doing crap. That just means I have to keep doing stuff to stay awake. The more I'm used to not-enough sleep, the more it gets better.

Sleep is very important to refresh the mind and body. Healthy body healthy mind. Stay away from drugs like some moron has recommened. I dont know why some people like to give stupid answers and mislead young people.

Stay focused and concentrate on priorities in life. Respect yourself and take care of your health and get enough rest and equal amount of exercise by joining in a sport. All the best in life. You are intelligent and will climb the success ladder.

I don't know if this is your specific case or not, but there have been interesting studies done that have shown that the youngest need more physical sleep than the oldest and depending on your age, you could use more sleep than most. I'm 42 years of age and only require about six hours of sleep, but required eight when I was younger. Teenagers require up to ten a night. So depending on your age, if you are younger, you would require more sleep than an older student.

college students feel the need to sleep more because I, as a college student, can say that many college students do not manage their time properly, do not develop good study and sleeping routines, etc. 7-8 hours should be enough, but try motivating yourself to do your homework earlier. then you can feel more relaxed and sleep better. I know it's easier said than done, but it will help you a lot in the long run. see if you can't get your friends and/or roommate(s) to help you out. good luck!
