Root canal?!? |
i have had the worst toothache for a week The process of the root canal isn't that bad as long as you have a good dentist. It is after the process is done that things can be painful. I have had two root canals in a two month period ( I have to get crowns--YUCK). The first root canal was pretty much painless during and after the process. The second, everything went smoothly at the office but once the pain meds wore off the tooth was very sore from all the work that was done. It still hurt for several days after the process. Which leads me to assume that the pain is different depending on how much has to be done to the tooth to get to the root and which tooth is being worked on. Hopefully your experience will be like my first one. If you get the right painkillers (and the right doctor), a root canal can be absolutely painless. I have had it before. Its not that bad. Just tell him you have deep roots and that you want a little extra freezing. I have from the looks of it 2 cavites and i need to go this week. Its not to bad just remember it will be over before you know it. Sometimes root canals hurt but when i had one it didn't hurt at all. it shouldn't hurt at all. If you are properly medicated you wont feel a thing. Once they shoot you with the novacaine and it numbs the area sufficiently you should be good to go, i.e. no pain. I had a molar done years ago and the whole thing took about 2 hours, so of course, they had to give me another dose of the local anestetic halfway through just to be certain I wouldn't feel a thing. Afterwards you'll want to keep ahead of your pain meds (i.e. take it before it wears off). I made the mistake of napping without taking mine and I was woken up by the second worse pain of my life. It took 30 mins before the prescribed 800mg of Motrin took affect and I was cussing the whole way. |
