Is Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever rare?

I just found a tick on my toddler son and it had already attached itself to him. I'm really freaking out. How common are these diseases?

You can just about get them from any tick. My mom has gotten lyme disease from 2 deer ticks, and she works cleaning houses back in wooden areas. SO they are common, but with Rocky Mountian, you do have rare cases of it. Just look for a red circle on your son's skin, and also look for signs of his moods, and energy level changing. Take him to the doctor right away when you see these signs! Hope this helps!

Where do you live? Lyme disease is mainly found only in the NE US Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is a little more prevalent in the plain states.

Nope, but it is really bad if you get it. It depend where you live how common it is. Just make sure you get the whole thing out of him. Don't leave the head. He will be fine.

Rare is a relative term and you don't care how rare it is if you get it. If you are going camping or hiking, take the appropriate precautions for the area you are in. There should be local information available.
