I just removed a tick from my leg, what should i do now?

I never had a tick before, I didn't even know it was a tick, so i grabbed it and put it on the ground. Then I realized it was a tick and my friend came in and killed it with a pen. I read online that it was a hardback male tick, the common kind here in North America. I heard it could carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and I touched it with my hands. I washed my hands and I don't have any rubbing alchohol....what should I do? Should I be worried?

It did bite me, and I don't have anything to rub on it, im a college student with no money.

wash the area with water and soap.

After tick removal, an antiseptic should be applied. The tick's degree of engorgement indicates its duration of attachment. If local swelling and discoloration are present, an oral antihistamine may be helpful. Although rarely practical, the tick may be saved for laboratory analysis to detect etiologic agents of tick-borne disease in the geographic area where the patient acquired the tick. Antibiotic prophylaxis for tick-transmitted infection is usually not recommended, but some experts recommend Lyme disease prophylaxis (single-dose doxycyclineSome Trade Names

Please see your DR.

Just watch the tick mark. If it turns red, or develops a circle, see a doctor. If it was very small, it good be a deer tick. They carry Lyme disease.

you are probably fine. anything that you could have done you have so just hope for the best. there are many many ticks in the world and only a few of them carry the diseases. you dont have to worry. just be on the look out.

Try to clean the wound out with something anitseptic. If you start to have redness around the area where the tick was, you should see a doctor. Some ticks also carry Lyme Disease which is a serious condition. Just keep an eye on the area.

Brad Paisley would like to check you for ticks....

Are you sure it isn't just a flea? Either way, I don't think you need to be worried unless it has bitten you. If you washed your hands and have no bites, I think you are fine. You might want to save your little friend in an envelope or something just in case, so if you have to show it to someone you have him. But, you have to have a bite to get anything.

You shouldn't really worry unless you feel like you are getting sick. Do you have some peroxide that you could rub on it. ?That might help.

Are you sure you got the whole tick out. Usually the head will still remain embedded under the skin which is why there are certain ways to remove a tick. When I was a little girl, my mom heated the end of a pin and the tick backed it's way out.I guess check with your doctor so he can take a look. It's the only way you'll know for sure.

make sure you get the WHOLE tick out. its head could still be in it, and thats not good. that happned to my puppy... The only thing you must do is wash it well with antibacterial soap and go buy rubbing alcholol to use it

Do you have peroxide? Put that on your leg where the tick was. Did you get his head out of your skin? I know when you remove ticks from dogs you have to burn them off to make sure the head doesn't stay in the dogs skin. I would go to the doctor just to get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

You have done all you can at this point. If it was attached, if it bit you, then just watch the bite mark. If it changes or if you start to feel ill, contact your doctor.

You need to take the dead tick (if possible) to your doctor's office. It needs to be tested right away. They can test the tick for disease and let you know if any problems are found or not. They might also give you a shot but not sure on that. I am not a doctor I just know you should definitely have someone test the tick at the very least.

You might want to go to a free clinic and see if they'll look at you and the tick. Keep an eye on the place where it bit you, if it turns red, you develop a rash, or the spot becomes irritated just in general, you should definitely see a doctor.

1) Use fine-point tweezers to grasp the tick at the place of attachment, as close to the skin as possible.
2) Gently pull the tick straight out.
3)Place the tick in a small vial labeled with the victim's name, address and the date.
4) Wash your hands, disinfect the tweezers and bite site.
5) Mark your calendar with the victim's name, place of tick attachment on the body, and general health at the time.
6) Call your doctor to determine if treatment is warranted.
7) Watch the tick-bite site and your general health for signs or symptoms of a tick-borne illness. Make sure you mark any changes in your health status on your calendar.
8) If possible, have the tick identified/tested by a lab, your local health department, or veterinarian.
