can Rocky Mountain spotted fever keep coming than going back or is it that once you have it until you go to the DR. for it

i dont think it can come back. try webmd.com

Once you are treated for it with antibiotics and the infection is destroyed, it can't "come back", but you can get it again if you get bitten by another tick infected with it. It is a bacteria, so once it is dead, it's dead.

Rocky Mountain spotted fever is the most severe and most frequently reported rickettsial illness in the United States. It also occurs in Mexico and in Central and South America. The disease is caused by Rickettsia rickettsii, a species of bacteria that is spread to humans by ixodid (hard) ticks. Initial signs and symptoms of the disease include sudden onset of fever, headache, and muscle pain, followed by development of rash. The disease can be difficult to diagnose in the early stages, and without prompt and appropriate treatment it can be fatal.

Appropriate antibiotic treatment should be initiated immediately when there is a suspicion of Rocky Mountain spotted fever on the basis of clinical and epidemiologic findings. Treatment should not be delayed until laboratory confirmation is obtained.

If the patient is treated within the first 4-5 days of the disease, fever generally subsides within 24-72 hours after treatment with an appropriate antibiotic (usually in the tetracycline class). In fact, failure to respond to a tetracycline antibiotic argues against a diagnosis of RMSF. Severely ill patients may require longer periods before their fever resolves, especially if they have experienced damage to multiple organ systems. Preventive therapy in non-ill patients who have had recent tick bites is not recommended and may, in fact, only delay the onset of disease.

If you have been treated and you think it is coming back -
1. You may have had, got rid of it and got it again ( esp. if you are immunocompromised)
2. You had it, but it was not susceptible to the antibiotics given. You need something else.
3. You never had it to begin with ( what kind of tests did they give you?) and you have somethhing completely different.
RMSF is hard to diagnose
