Anyone know what a CT scan would show with retinoblastoma?

Computed tomography (CT) scan is a valuable tool in the differential diagnosis and management of retinoblastoma. Most retinoblastoma patients studied with high resolution computed tomography have intraocular calcification demonstrable in at least one eye. Over 80% of tumors shows evidence of calcification on CT scan. The degree of calcification appears to depend upon tumor size; only small tumors are devoid of calcification. In patients under three years of age in whom a retinoblastoma is suspected, the presence of calcification on CT scan is virtually diagnostic of retinoblastoma. Ct scan also helps the doctor ascertain the size of the tumor, involvement of the optic nerve and surrounding structures and a CT scan is also useful in ruling out retinoblastoma.

I am glad that the CT scan was not bad. If he is 9 the chances of retinoblastoma is very low - Retinoblastoma is diagnosed at an average of 18 months with 90% diagnosed before patients reach age 5 years. God bless both of you and hope he makes a full recovery very soon. Report It

what do u wanna know?

would show the doctor where all the bleeding is in the back of ur eye

A CT scan is sort of like an x-ray. While X-rays are uded to take pictures of bones, CT scans are used to to take pictures of your soft tissue.--it creates images of what lies benith your skin.

According to medical terminology, retino has something to do with the eye and oma means tumor.

I believe that a CT scan of the eyes would show abnormalities in eye, such as growths and tumors, that are not visable to the naked eye.
