I too have had the same problem for years, however, mine has been arrested. It is called Restless Leg Syndrome, and really is a physical condition that requires medication. It was explained to me that it is a condition that affects our nerve endings. I had tried every thing before I finally got the proper medication for mine. Mine however is severe at times. I can't take over the counter medication for sleep, as it affects the RLS, only it goes into my arms and neck. My whole body will do the same thing as your legs do now. Benydril is one of the WORSE offenders for me, and some cold medications. I know I can't take Tylenol PM, or any of the PM medications, as they all have the same affect on me. Seroquil is another one I cannot take. I took that one night, and ended up in the ER, as it was the worse reaction I have ever had to medication. People will tell you it's what you eat or drink before bedtime, but that isn't nec. true. In '95 I was diagnosed with bipolar, level 1, and that is why I have RLS,. as that is a characteristic of bipolar. But I believe there is other physical conditions as well as other mental illness that has the same. You will need to check with your doctor. It is now a recognized medical problem, where as when I first had it, it was not. (so in one way you are lucky to have it now). One thing that did seemed to help over the counter, was medication for women that was intended for PMS. But again, I had to be careful. I remember when I still had a period the RLS was much worse! I'm thru all that now, and I still have problems with it at times, but very mild compared to what it was before. I'm on an eptileptic medication for a mood stabilizer for the bipolar, and that has helped the most.
But, again, see your doctor and tell him you have RLS, Restless Leg Syndrome.

Jason is correct: RLS I take "Requip" for it. You go to sleep and drive your spouse out of bed, it's as bad a snoring. Try and watch T.V. and your legs ache, you keep stretching, stomping your feet, shaking your legs, that's it, you got it. They don't know what it is but they have a pill for it, like everything else.

Please visit www.rls.org. and http://www.requip.com/.
http://mirapex.com. All offer good information.
You are very likely to have RLS, despite that you are describing only one criteria of the four. You are in the right age group.
RLS can be due to some systemic disease, (anemia, etc...)and it is successfully treated.
Also, you must see your MD.
