Is an Upper Respiratory Infection contagious??

I have a U.R.I. (Upper Respiratory Infection), I need to know if it's contagious!?

URI's can be bacterial or viral. Both kinds are contagious mainly in the first 3 days of an acute infection. They can be spread by oral contact, sneezing or coughing. The most common type of contact is from your hand to your own mouth. We touch a doorknob an infected person uses or a pen, etc. put it down and without thinking rub our own face or mouth. Don't shake hands when infected or with someone who is infected, Wash your hands frequently. Don't touch your face and consider Lysol spray for doorknobs.

No, because it is an infection

If it is a bacterial infection, Yes it can be contagious, but one caused by a virus wouldn`t be.

Nope, not contagious. Just makes you cough and sputter and sound like you should be, lol.

Hope you feel better soon. : )

no it's not...don't worry

Yes, but infections are caused by viruses and bacteria that can spread. Most of the time, if it is viral, after around the first three days it isn't contagious anymore. However, if it is bacterial, you can still be contagious until all the bacteria are gone, ie after you finish your course of antibiotics.

Most Upper Respiratory Infections are highly contagious. They are spread through Respiratory secretions. Sneezing and Coughing can spread droplets in the air (germs). Also, they can be spread by the person with infection when they wipe their nose or cough and touch an object that someone else has contact later. What I would do is, if you are around someone with a Upper Respiratory Infection, you should take extra caution about what you touch and make sure that you do the best to disinfect objects and also wash your hands alot. If you are the one with the infection, make sure that you cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze into a tissue so that you don't send droplets (germs) into the air that others can breath in.

All infections are contagious.
