About every two to three months I get either bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection.....?

Every two months i keep getting the same sickness....About a week ago I noticed that I was coughing up yellow mucus so I went to the doctor early and got anitbiotics...but i'm still coughing the same way ...I keep getting this infection every 2 months! Why does this keep happening? And since i'm still coughing should i go back to the doctor?

I can think of a couple of reasons: (1) perhaps you were put on a new medication (maybe for high blood pressure) and the cough is a side effect or more likely (2) you are heating your home without the benefit of humidity. A lot of people get that dry hacky cough as soon as winter sets in because the air they breathe, especially at night, is too dry. Get a humidifier to put in your bedroom at night. Hydrate yourself by drinking more water. This will keep your mucous thin and thereby allowing it to flow down your throat, not get stuck where it will harbor bacteria. Use saline solution to wet you nasal passages at night time, for the same reason. You can take asprin or ibuprophen to reduce irritation of bronchitis and pain/fever. It's that thick mucous that is keeping you sick. It's like glue; keeping bacteria in your body. Also drinking hot tea and hot soups will help. A nice hot shower to breathe in the humid air will also help hydrate you and your lungs. Bronchitis is in the upper part of your lungs and will reoccur unless you keep yourself hydrated and keep your environment moist. I hope you feel better. Thanks for asking a question to the benefit of others. Godloveya.

Do you take your entire prescription or do you stop taking the antibiotics as soon as you feel better? It is important to take the *ENTIRE* prescription because stopping in the middle can cause the bacteria to become drug resistant and could lead to continued infections.

Well, I do not know exactly what to say. I think that your lungs are very damaged and(not to sound gross) clogged. I also think that if you keep getting sick, the air you are breathing is way too humid so you need to get a dehumidifier. Yes I think you should go back to the doctor in a week or so and see if your doctor can prescribe anything else. I hope it gets better. I have asthma so I know what it feels like. My lungs have been calle"The worst lungs I've ever seen." by my doctor so I know how you feel.

Quit smoking. Smoking destroys the IgA antibodies in just about every area of your body. With this part of your immune system turned off, the same infection is basically coming back again and again. Eventually, it will turn into a more serious disease like Emphysema and, umm, kill you.

Or, you can quit smoking and avoid all that.

You must be like me have a weakened ammune system i have had this stupid flu going around the city over 7 weeks no lie, best thing is to eat proper meals with fruit and veggies and take a proper vitamin or vitamins daily.

Do you have alot of mold in your home?Sometimes that can cause you to get respiratory infections,as mold is VERY toxic.

You have received some good answers, but another possibility is allergies which can cause airway constriction/asthma. The constriction may not be severe enough for you to have noticeable symptoms (such as wheezing, tightness in lungs), but the combination of constriction and increased mucus can provide an environment that is conducive to infection. Where do you live? There are some oddball organisms, such as fungi, that can cause lung problems that antibiotics would not help.
