Person with a stoma bag with the bowel or hernia on the outside of the body is it nursing or residential care?

My daughter has had one since may.she has a stoma nurse and is no way incapacitated she`s back at work and friday gone had her school prom.good luck.Look on the "ia" web site for more information.

my sister has a stoma and it is not residential care she recieves but nursing care...she has a stoma nurse who comes to check its still working ok...having a stoma does not need to be life changing she still goes out and has a very active life

its self care,,but the nurse will teach you proper care of your stoma..for example changing the bag every 1/2 full, how to clean stoma & protect the surrounding skin by applying protective barrier & reporting to the physician if the stoma turns pale or violet (indicates lack of blood flow),,

If you are referring to an elderly person who may be incapable of looking after their own stoma, possibly because of limited understanding or physical incapacity, and is perhaps considering a Care Home, you should visit local Homes and discuss with the Officer in Charge. Some Residential Homes in our Town have staff who have nursing experience and would be happy to accept a resident with this condition; if there isn't such a Home in your area, you may have to look at Nursing Care.
Why not ask at your local Social Services Office - they will be able to advise on Residential Homes which would not see this as a problem.

I can be shown how to look after it yourself so that you can get on with your life.

You need to get in touch with your doctor and speak with him/her he may get you to see a stoma nurse and she can show you how to look after the bag.

It is not as bad as it sounds you can hide the bag and you can not see then under you cloths.
