How does "Hemoglobin values decrease in renal disease"?

The renal disease causes a loss of red blood cells. Your hemoglobin count or value is actually the total amount of red blood cells in the blood. The life of a blood cell is about 2 weeks, without constantly replacing the worn out cells you are in trouble.

The kidneys, among myriad other functions, produce a hormone called erythropoietin (or EPO). The hormone stimulates red blood cell production (erythropoiesis). In kidney disease, insufficient EPO can cause anemia.
