Renal (kidney) dialysis?

What is the difference between renal dyalosis and renal replacement therapy? What is better to do with a baby with renal failure?

It really depends on the age of the baby and how serious the kidney problem is. There are also different kinds of dialysis. Hemodialysis is where they put the blood through a special machine, pull out the wastes and then put the blood back in the body. It's pretty time consuming and usually done 3 times a week (less or more depending on kidney function). Peritoneal dialysis is where they put a special fluid (called dialysate) into the peritoneum (abdomen) and drain it off after a few days. Then put fresh fluid back in and this helps clean the blood of wastes. Renal replacement therapy is dialysis, but there are different kinds that usually take place in the hospital, like on a continuous basis. Is the baby a candidate for a kidney transplant? I hope this helps!
