Does anyone know a cancer patient taking the drug Sutent? |
My father is taking is taking the drug for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) that has spread into his lungs. I have done the research and know all the risks, side effects and possible outcomes, I just want to know if anyone has had success with this drug personally. I know cancer is unpredictable, and everyone reacts to drugs in different ways, I'm just trying to figure out what real people have to say, not the doctors. The doctors where I live suggested that drug for my mom but thought she would better benefit from surgery. She also had RCC. They sent her to the Mayo clinic in MN because they didn't feel she would make it thru the extensive surgery here at a smaller hospital. The doctors in MN said they aren't even sure yet just how well that drug even works. I am so glad she decided against the drug and went to Mayo. Not sure where you are or how far along your father's cancer is, (they gave her 2 months before the surgery) but I would strongly suggest going somewhere like the Mayo clinic for surgery instead of the Sutent, if its possible. My mom is still with us today thanks to this choice and the wonderful doctors at the Mayo Clinic. Good luck. If you ever need to talk about this please email me. Yes. I know people who have used sutent (Sunitinib). It has been somewhat of a miracle drug as far as GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor) patients are concerned. GIST is a disease that was revolutionized by Gleevec a few years ago. But there are some cancer patients with GIST that do not respond to Gleevec so Sunitinib was introduced. Those who didn't respond to Gleevec or who become resistant can now use Sutent. |
