I'm having an emergency colonoscopy done this coming monday and i'm a little scared, should i be i am only 25? |
I started with constipation around my birthday feb 8. I am used to diarrea all the time since i have crohns disease. After two weeks i finally went to the doctors office and recieved a super laxative and a daily regiment of fiber pills. Finally i was releasing bowel, but very little at a time and much pain came with it. The doctor told me to wait 2 weeks and if the pills didint work, or the pain proceded to come back, Easter sunday i layed all day on the couch crying of pain in my lower left side of my abdomen radiating up to middle of my stomach. I got an appointment for today (tuesday) and went and saw the doctor. He examined the painful area (all he did was touch (barely) the area and it hurt so bad i cried) and told me that i was full of crap and also examined my rectal area and found blood. He then took no time and got on the phone with another doctor and told them that i needed a colonoscopy in and emergency situation. He also prescribed asacol 400mg,4xs/day. Whats going on? Asacol is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. If you have Crohns then you are probably having a major flare up. Which can cause you to have blood in your rectal area. I wouldn't be to concerned. The colonoscopy will tell the Dr where the flare up is and if you need surgery. Your bowels could also be perforated. I think you are going to be fine. Just follow the orders until Monday. And try to relax. You are young, you will get thru this with flying colors. |
