PLEASE HELP! Need physician advice- my dad has cancer...again...?

My dad is 57 years old. Here is his history-
2004 colon/rectal cancer, had rectum removed (now has colostomy), margins and lymph clear. 2006 tumor on tongue, cancerous, removed, margins and lymph clear.
1 month ago he felt a small pea sized bump on his chin, after a week it was growing larger, doctor took biopsy (said it was a seperate type of cell than the colon and tongue) and said it was cancer, no name given. He had a PET scan last Friday and in the past couple weeks this small bump has nearly quadrupled in size. After the doctor stuck a needle in the bump for the biopsy, my dad noticed more bumps all over his body (back, underarm, chest, groin). These bumps are getting bigger and are tender to touch. He met with the doctor today who said his cancer spread from somewhere and "skipped the lymph glands and went right to his blood". He also has a small bit on his liver. He referred us to a chemo doctor, but we can't even get a consultation for another week and a half. Any advice?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. It sounds like things are progressing rapidly, and I know that it must be hard to wait. One idea is to call the chemo doctor's office and explain about the rapid changes -- maybe they can fit you in earlier. In the meantime, you might use this time to do some research on the non-medical things that can be done to improve survival time, such as diet, support groups, and even prayer. Those things would be in addition to, not instead of, medical treatment. I hope all goes well with the chemo doctor, and I hope for the best for your dad.
