Rectal bleeding?

Has anyone you know been diagnosed with colon cancer? What symptoms did they experience before being diagnosed?

symptoms:
rectal pain
bright red blood present in or on the stool
change in stool color to black red or maroon
stool test positive for occult blood loss (blood may be prese
nt but you cant see it)
confusion
dizzineness or lightheadedness

when to seek medical care: when rectal bleeding is present with one or more of the ff.

fever
stomach pain-swelling ,bloating on the left side of the ab
domen
nausea/ vomitting
bleeding continues or worsens
recent WEIGHT LOSS!
alterd bowel habits
severe or prolonged diarrhea
pencil-sized stools, involuntary seepage of stools or
inability to have bowel movements.

A visit to the hospital emergency department warranted a:

black or maroon stool
large volume of blood loss
rectal pain
dizziness/weakness or fainting spells
difficult breathing
but in most cases colon cancer does not always present symptons
Seven months ago i underwent a surgical procedure because i had all the symptoms that warranted me to underwent surgery but luckily , i only had this thrombosed hemorroids.!

I know if the blood is dark colored it is more or less cancer.

Maybe it's just a mild case of Moon Pecker-roo.

Don't get too concerned; could just be hemorrhoids.

My grandfather died of colon cancer, but he had symptoms for YEARS that he ignored. Besides the rectal bleeding, he suffered from constipation, diarrhea and digestive problems.

Colon cancer is curable, but early detection is key. Ask your doctor about it.

BTW, hemorrhoids can also cause rectal bleeding.

Rectal bleeding, if the blood is red then it is most likely piles. If the discharge is dark brown or black then it could be an ulcer. It could be a number of different things, colon cancer being just one of them. Get it checked out by a physician.

Bleeding - Blood in Stool: This is the most commonly experienced colon cancer symptom.

Weight Loss: An unexpected weight loss accompanied by other symptoms can indicate colon cancer.

Changes in Bowel Habits: If you are consistently constipated or have diarrhea, this must be evaluated by a physician. Changes in bowel habits also include gas and producing thinner stools. Thinner stools are usually the result of a tumor obstructing the passage of feces. This is one of the more common colon cancer symptoms.

Abdominal Discomfort: Abdominal discomfort can mean many things - bloating, swelling, cramping and feeling full.

Abdominal Pain: Swelling and pain of the abdomen are also symptoms of colon cancer. This usually occurs when the intestine is blocked by a tumor. If the tumor grows large, then nausea and vomiting can occur.

Fatigue: Fatigue is a symptom of many cancers. It can also be a symptom of many other conditions that aren't cancer related. Fatigue experienced with cancer can be mild or severe.

Go see a doctor ASAP!!

Is your stool ever gray?That can happen with some cancers.
Is the blood red or black? Red usually means hemorrhoids.
Black blood is from farther up.
Lots of things can cause rectal bleeding. Go have a colonoscopy done.

My mother had colon cancer. Her only symptom was chronic constipation.

The classic symptom is rectal bleeding, as you say. This can be caused by hemorrhoids (sorry if spelling is wrong) or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but MIUST be checked out because there is no way to be sure without an internal exam. Some people assume that if the blood is bright red, it means that it can't be bowel cancer, but that's not true.

The bleeding may just mean that a polyp has developed in your bowel, but that will eventually turn into cancer if you leave it.

Symptoms:Change in bowel habits Constipation, diarrhea, and bowel incontinence.
Blood on or in the stool, which does not necessarily indicate cancer. Numerous other problems can cause bleeding in the digestive tract, including hemorrhoids, ulcers, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease. Unusual stomach or gas pain

Some test that are done are: rectal exam, stool specimen, barium enema, colonoscopy or biopsy.

Rectal bleeding does not always mean colon cancer. It could be something as simple as hemorrhoids, but you need to see a medical professional to be sure. A colonoscopy is really mandatory for everyone 50 years of age or over. Yet a shockingly low number in that age group have ever had one. Myths about the test abound - but even if there is some discomfort, it beats having a galloping tumor and not being aware of it. Good luck.

Dear one yes I have lots of experience ,but I dont want to scare you .my mother passed away last sept 20 due to colon cancer .many years they treated her for palups like it was nothing .but she lost a bunch of her colon and had to wear a bag on her side that was all for mom ,she was in her 50s .stoped her relationship with my father in the loving way .she couldnt handle it and had many problems from the surgery ,ok now we all in our family are high risk 3 years ago I had diaherra so much they done a test and did find something and removed it ,but it was not cancer ,and now again I have begun to have alot of diaherra ,so I just a couple weeks ago had a test done again on my colon ,and this time they found I have colitious of the bowel ,thats why when I eat I have to gho straight to restrooms .so now I take a fiber pill every night at bed time .colon cancer is gentic as well .I ask my doctor what signs to watch for he said any major change in the bowel ,bleeding ,pain ,diaherra .now my mother did not bleed she had diaherra so bad she could not go nowhere and back then they didnt have as much knowledge about colon as now .I feel everone should have a colon test every 5 years ,I have to go every year because of my history and my mother .so please if you are having alot of changes go have a colonscope done .you could never be safe enough when it comes to cancer .God Bless yah .hope all goes well .

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer 34 years ago. He had apparently been bleeding through the rectum but thought it was hemorrhoids. He apparently was bleeding alot. He came home that night and passed out. He went to the city of hope in LA and is just perfect today. He wears a colostomy but other than that he is great...it is one of the easiest cancers to survive.
