Red, itchy and lumpy rashes forming on my skin almost immediately after my skin is scratched?

I have had this condition for as long as i can remember, and i have noticed it getting worser and worser by time. I am now 15 and when i scratch my skin red itchy lumpy rashes appear on my skin almost immediately after i scratch. ie, if i use a fingernail and draw a "W" shape on my arm, a "w" shaped rash will appear. I have been doing some research online and I have learnt it could be dermagraphitis. I have seen a doctor about 3 weeks ago and did a blood test and a skin allergy test. The blood test confirmed that there was something in my blood that is causing this. However the skin test was not accurate at all because they add a drop on liquid on your skin then put a prick on that spot and measure the rash to see how allergic you are. My skin was so reactive that a rash appeared even when they used a pen to write on my skin. I am taking antihistimines (i cant spell) and the condition is better but rashes still appear and if i dont take them my condition gets worse. PLEASE HELP!!

Well, first off, there is no such thing as dermagraphitis. Dermagraphia is a physical sign which usually indicates an allergic or inflammatory reaction. Dermagraphia is Latin for writing on skin (i.e. derma = skin, graph = writing). I think it is worthwhile for you to see a dermatologist as well as an allergist/immunologist. If you have a primary care physician, you should see him/her first and ask for a referral. Allergic reactions or inflammatory diseases are both possibilities. While, it is relatively easy to treat the symptoms, I think you should get a workup to see what is the underlying cause. What would be helpful to know is whether to rash is confined to a localized area or is it all over your body. Do you suffer from asthma? Does another family member have similar symptoms (i.e. father, mother, siblings...etc)? Are you currently taking any medication? Have you ever suffered from an allergic reaction to foods or medication?

There are a number of tests which would be informative. Ask your physician for a CBC, ESR and CRP. All these are blood test which would give you a clearer picture of what is going on in your body.

Staph maybe?

That's really weird...

tthen your skin is SUPER-sensittive

well i just have a little rash its not worse like urs mine is just a normal rash but thats just really tough for u i cant believe u have a huge rash i dont know wat to do all i know is that get some Aveeno cream or just buy it and put it on ur rash it helpes me and Aveeno is a great cream it soothen my rash and i dont have it anymore so ask ur doctor about Aveeno!!!! hope i helped u good luck with ur rash thing

Sounds like chronic urticaria.

Sounds to me like you've done pretty much what can be done for now. You said you saw the doctor about 3 wks ago. Would that have been a dermatologist? That is who you need to see.

Otherwise, I can only suggest you buy a good moisturizer body lotion that you like and use it liberally, especially on your arms and legs and try not to scratch. Dry skin will only aggravate an already troublesome condition. Try not to worry on it too much or your nerves will kick in and make matters worse..

Continue the antihistamines. They won't hurt you and hopefully you are taking one of the newer ones that do not make you sleepy.

Good luck..
I am an RN

You are very allergic... you can't stop antihistamines but you can start paying attention to your diet and what is good to eat to help your skin to be more resistant to agression. Jimbo's is a good place to start.

Eat lots of garlic, take burdock (extremely good for removing toxins from the body. Strong blood purifier and cleanser. One of the best herbs for severe skin problems). Red clover, antioxidents,
I don't think you need to do everything this site says but if you do some it should be helpful

see your doctor!

You may just have ultra-sensitive skin. You could start by using a gentle soap without any fragrances. A bar soap like Ivory is the best over-the-counter soap to use for skin conditions like psoriasis. Aveeno is good for conditions like eczema. Cetaphil is a great liquid cleanser for the face when skin irritations occur. You can also use a hydrocortisone cream like cortaid after the rash occurs. Good luck!
