Rare spine disease?

Has anyone heard of a rare spine disease in which the spine slowly deteriorates?

My husband's co-worker was complaining of back pain, and his doctor did an mri and they discovered that he had a rare spine disease and his spine has been slowly deteriorating. They dont know how long it has been going on and i dont believe they can stop it. but i dont remember what the name was. Any clues?

My daughter has degenerative disc disease. Hers is rapid progressing. At this time there is nothing much medically that can be done. She just had a 3 level spinal fusion, but the dies ease itself continues. She is only 26 yrs. old. Prayers are in full force for her.
