Rare disease? |
Has anyone heard of a disease where a person tries to "eat" himself....my professor was talking about it..and I can't remember the name. No it's not autophagy...autophagy is the degradation of a cell's own components. I remember it was "something" syndrome..lol very helpful right Theres an illness called Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. Its gentic i think it affects boys only but im not sure. I remember a lecturer talking about it. One aspect of it is self mutilation especially eating skin off fingers and lips. The urge is so bad that over half of sufferers have their teeth removed. they often have to be strapped down so they wont gouge at their eyes. its really sad. hmnnnnn cannibalism......? ouch! eww. Personal cannabolism?!?!?!?! What will they think of next? "autophagy" means eating oneself. Is this what you were looking for? it's named T-virus...oh..sorry....that's from resident evil eating things that aren't edible is called pica, i don't know if eating oneself is classified under the same disease. Did the teacher talk in reference to humans? |
