Hospital Discrimination after rape due to mental health. Is it worth filing a complaint? What should I do?

While staying in Maryland Heights, MO my house was broken into and I was raped on 11/10/2006 (did not go to the police because i was afraid the detective on previous burglaries wouldnt believe me without some kind of proof), went to grannies house shortly after i realized what happened. went to hospital on 11/11 told them i was sexually assualted, was having really bad anxiety and chest pain, suicidal and homicidal because i knew who had done it. they kept questioning me on wether or not i was telling the truth and did a drug test on me because i was in a manic state. Due to my mental condition at the time they did not perform a rape kit on me because they didnt believe me, they said i was questionable in my case and it was too late to do a rape kit on me because i had showered although i had the underwear i had on in a baggie in my book bag. I had also asked them to contact the detective that handled previous breakins to my apartment and they never did that. They discharged me in a slightly unstable condition and gave me back the knife i was going to cut myself with upon my discharge. But because of their discrimination against me because of my mental status I had no proof of who raped me and didnt want to go to the police without the proof. Because there was no kit done i couldnt prove the person did it. I ended up having to move out of state to get away from the personand the situation because i fear for my life and its causing a lot of problems even here where i am. Is there anything i can do?

I'm so sorry this happened to you. You need to:

1. Report this to Police
2. Be strong and have support around you
3. Receive help for your trauma
4. Understand that this is in NO WAY your fault

You should go to the police where You are now, and ask to talk to the special victims unit , Most police areas have this unit, or they can refer You to someone that can help.
You need to settle this , or You will be bothered for a long time.
You also need to sort the guy out who did this to you.

such a difficult situation to be in... and i am sorry that this is all happening to you.

.1... it was NOT your fault.
.2... get into some counselling or some time of therapy. even though its really hard to talk about such things... its so important to get it started early on... before things get totally out of control.
.3... if you feel the need to have this reported to police... go and report it. yeah... you might not have the evidence... but it can be still worth the work to have it reported. they may not be able to convict the person against the incident that happened to you... but if it happens to someone else... and they report it and are able to give a name.... your report can assist in getting this man throw in jail.
.4... please throw that knife away.... suicide is never the answer.

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time..One thing you can do is stay on your medicines so that you have control of your emotions and not be manic. Since you have moved out of state you shouldn't be having problems about that unless you are not getting help from a therapist to help you work through the anger, and fears. I would suggest that you find a therapist or join a survivor group.
