What's a rape kit?

What is a rape kit? I've heard of it but I have NO idea what it is?!?!?!?!?!?!

A rape kit is what the police use to obtain evidence in an alleged rape.

It is done by a physician or other healthcare official at a hospital or clinic.

They take samples of the victims head hair, pubic hair, fingernails. They swab inside the mouth, vaginal area and rectum if it is appropriate. They take pictures of any bruises or cuts. Each piece of evidence is sealed inside plastic evidence bags and sealed, labeled and signed by the person taking the evidence.

This rape kit has to be transported by the police to the coroner for evaluation.

I was raped. A rape kit is what the ER nurses/doctors do while you are there, getting checked out. The police DO NOT get involved unless you ask them to. So, to say it's what the police use is inacruate, at least in my rape sitaution. Report It

my understanding is that it is a special 'kit' that medical personnel have (for example a hospital emergency room) to use with rape victims because it protects the integrity of the physical evidence (for example, the vaginal contents etc so the sperm could be DNA identified). collecting physical evidence from the rape victim is very important in subsequent convictions so medical personnel have to do special procedures for that reason. the 'kit' just has everything together to preserve the evidence legally and take care of the person who has been raped.

If it is possible that a woman was raped, a hospital/care center will conduct a rape kit to determine whether or not she was raped and collect evidence/DNA/sperm.

A rape kit is a test that you get done when you have been raped.
The police department sends you to the hospital.
The doctors take samples of hair and swabs.
Then they put them in a kit.
Then the kit sits on the shelf of some police department for years and years and years while the guy that raped you goes free.

when someone has been raped the hospital they go to conducts a 'rape kit'...this where the comb the vaginal hair for any specimens that may still be there from the rapist

there are two different kinds of rape kits:
First the cops carry one and use to ID a rapist swabs and stuff to collect samples from the victim.
second: Use by a rapist he might have gloves, duck tape, condoms, pry bar of some type and a weapon... He'll have it all in a bag of some type and when he Id's a victim he grabs it and goes after her.... He may also have some date rape drug in there as-well. IE roofies....

It's a sterile swab inserted into the vagina, a sterile wrap with a comb to take samples of possible forign pubic hair or fiber, it can come with a morning after pill to prevent pregnancy, and they use a laproscopic lens to ck for hymen damage and abrasions and pictures of possible bruising.

After a woman is raped, a Sexual Assault Examiner Nurse (SANE) or other qualified person collects evidence from the victim that might help catch her (usually) rapist. If I'm not mistaken hospitals are required to hold onto these kits for 30 days so a victim can decide whether to file charges. These websites explain what a rape kit is.
