What is a rape kit?

i need to have one done. im really scared about whats gunna happen to me. can anyone tell me what a rape kit is?

ok. i have some answers. but i dont really get what evidence there is to collect? i know i sound like im really stupid but im 14 and i didnt have health yet at school. i mean i know there is semen but thats all i know. what else is there?

It is just like a pap smare bring done. They ask you alot of questions. There are nusres that do it now. They are very nice and very guntial. you can bring a friend. Or you can have avcate there with you. ( it's good to have one there with you, bc they can help you though it) They talk to you while it is going on. you can stop anytime you need. They have them at the hospital I think, go to the hospital, or the police station and tell them you need to be examined because of rape.

Don't change or shower. it can remove the semen and the dna to catch who did it, even if you know. they need proof.

Rape sometimes leaves pubic hair (the hair that grows around your attackers penis & scrotum), if your attacker came, even if it was just a little bit, his seman will be there. W/that, his DNA can be identified! Sometimes there is bruising, but not usually. That may not be the case w/you because you are so young. The bruises can be inside as well as out. If you have not been sexually active, the chances of your hymen being intact up to the point of your attack are good. The hymen is a tissue just inside a woman's vagina. The tearing through leaves a small amount of blood just as if you cut your finger. All of these things added to what you tell the police is evidence.
Because you are so young, you want to be sure someone goes & stays w/you while the rape kit exam is done. Doctors will need your parent's or legal guardian's OK to do anything. It is important for them. If you are unable to tell them -- the ER nurses, social worker, doctor, or the advocate can help you w/that.

I can understand your being scared. This is a stressful time for you. I would imagine the health professionals who conduct the exam will be as gentle as possible, though. Wishing you all the best.

A "Rape Kit" basically checks for DNA. Sperm, spit or any other form of liquid that holds DNA can be used and recovered from the Rape Kit. If you have a shower or anything beforehand, it can damage and/or destroy the vital DNA that can lead to the Rapist being prosecuted. Just be careful, and go to your local Police Station.
