Why do people assume that somthing that comes from nature is safe?

Mercury, ricen, arsnic, lead, digoxin, aflotoxin, nicotine, radon, cyanide, and many more all come from nature and are toxic.

Also many natural ingrediants used in medicen such as codein is still processed to remove naturaly ocurring impurities?

Might I add Arsenic which is a pure element on the periodic table.

Also things like cocaine, passion flower, berries, mushrooms etc.. are also very dangerous. I think people assume everything natural is safe because of the word "natural" can be easily related to "normal" or "how it should be."

it's all in our genetic programming ;/

same reason that people think they need antibacterial soaps and things like that. They buy into all the marketing. We are constantly bombarded with ads telling us we need this stuff, so people buy it. Often times "all natural" means natural ingredients that have been processed. high fructose corn syrup (a commonly used sweetener) is considered all natural, but isn't all that healthy for you.

They believe it because some things that come from nature are safe. I doubt that anyone believes that everything that comes from nature is safe.
