Saliva gets stimulate after Radiotherapy? |
I have undergone radiotherapy 16 months ago & due to side effects I don鈥檛 have saliva in my mouth. Now my question is how to know if the damage to the glands is permanent or temporary. However, at one of my chick I feel little wet from last 6 months but not much of improvement. Whether my saliva will get stimulate? I'm assuming you had treatment to your Head and Neck. In this situation some or all of the salivary glands are treated with radiation. There are some techniques, like IMRT, that can reduce the dose to the salivary glands, but even with IMRT the salivary glands to get treatment. Saliva is always poor if they get virtually any radiation, but improves over a 1-2 year time frame. You are midway thru that recovery. If you are still very dry (dry mouth wakes you up, need bottled water all day) then you might not see a big improvement. However, recent reports suggest that your saliva might continue to improve as far at 10 years out of tx in select patients. |
