What level of haemoglobin in blood is ok before you start Radiotherapy.?

Worried that the Radiotherapy could make anaemia worse. Not sure what a good reading would be before start of treatment. Any Medical people out there? thank you.

Depending on what part of the body is being irradiated, your anemia could become worse. As far as what is an acceptable hemoglobin to get radiation - that's hard to answer because each physician has their own threshold as to when to hold a treatment. Generally, I will wait until someone's hemoglobin is 8.0 g/dl or less before transfusing. If the patient is symptomatic (extremely tired or short of breath), I will transfuse earlier. Please ask your doctor what their cutoff is.

this would be a question for your oncologist or radiation oncologist. idk if radiation necessarily makes anemia worse but there certainly are some cancers that respond better to radiotherapy with a higher hemoglobin. i have seen patients receive blood transfusions prior to radiation therapy in order to maximize the results. discuss this with your doctor as it is probably specific to the particular tumor and radiation

Your consultant will decide a safe level for you which will possibly be different to the safe level for someone else its all very individual
