Whats the difference between radiotherapy and chemotherapy?

Whats the difference between radiotherapy and chemotherapy?

radio therapy is usuing radiation to kill off the cancerous tumor.
Chemotherapy is using drugs to kill it off.

Radiotherapy uses radiation to try to kill the cancerous cells. It is not an invasive procedure. Radiotherapy is sometimes used to make a tumor smaller.

Chemotherapy is using drugs injected into the body to attack and kill the cancerous cells.

Radiotherapy : when we will use the radiation (some elements like the uranum and other radiating elements) in treating the tuamar(canser).

Chemotherapy : using chemical medication in treating the tumars(Canser).

The biggest difference is that radiotherapy can treat localized tumors or just one area very well. It is not as effective for metastatic cancer because it covers too wide an area.

That's where chemotherapy comes in . . chemotherapy can be given systemically which means it treats the entire body internally. It follows the same path that the metastatic cancer would take . . through the blood system and lymphatic system and so is better able to kill off microscopic or small cancers in the body system.

So:
Radiotherapy - targets local or small areas
Chemotherapy - travels throughout the body with the idea of killing off small cancers as well as shrinking larger tumors.

Radiation is used if you have low stage cancer, and chemotherapy is used if it is more advanced. Sometimes with advanced cancer they will use both types of treatment.
