Itching after radiation therapy?

My mom had a cancerous tumor removed in her leg, and received radiation therapy. Her treatments ended about 3 weeks ago, but yesterday she started itching horribly all over her body, not just the leg. Is this a normal reaction to the radiation? Should we be concerned? What can help it?

Radiation doesn't cause itching all over the body. It could in a small area, which would indicate healing, but the itching you describe sounds much more severe and her doctor should be made aware of it.
Itching can be caused by many things, from contact dermatitis to kidney problems to diabetes to scabies. You should call your doctor's office number - most doctors have an answering service for off-hours, and they can relay your information to doctor. Someone should call you back with information. Be sure to let them know the itching is really bad.
