Radiation therapy as a major?

Can you please tell me any specific information about Radiation therapy as a career? Like what does their daily job consist of doing exactly? I already read some informative articles about this therapy itself but i just would like to know a short explaination of details about it. I am very interested in claiming this as my major at the university. Thanks for all answers.

I have been a Radiation Therapist for 20 years.Email me at toadrus@yahoo.com.I can give you any info you need.In a nutshell, you are responsible for delivering a prescribed dose of radiation. You will work directly with a Radiation Oncologist. You are also responsible for a process called simulation, which is the first step in treatment planning. In smaller departments, you will do calculations ,be a nurse, and there are quality assurance checks you must do on the linear accelerator. You have to learn to deal with the stress of people dying. Its especially hard when dealing with children.

I don't know about the stuff that you are asking, but I do have some insight from a different perspective. My wife was a cancer patient and had several rounds of radiation treatments.

My first advise would be to make sure that you have the kind, thoughtful personality that the patients need to feel comfortable with you as their therapy operator. Second, I think it would be a benefit to be a bit thick skinned. Many of your patients are going to die. My wife did. I think it would be a very rewarding job, but also a very painful job. Good luck.

For the record, all of my wife's radiation and chemo therapists were wonderful.
