Would you be able to drive yourself home after radiation therapy or chemo therapy for breast cancer?

I hate the idea of being driven to the therapy sessions.

Yes, you would likely be able to do it and many women even work afterward. Some cannot but you will know how you are affected by treatment relatively early.

On the other hand, consider allowing friends/family to drive you. This is a terrifying thing for THEM too, and being able to participate in this small way can help them cope. It is a little gift that YOU can give THEM.

You might want to be driven. When my dad had radiation he could hardly drive afterwards. Ask your doctor if it will affect you that way.

Chemo made me too sick to drive but radiation on my chest area did not bother me and I drove myself.
It will depend a lot on your own individual tolerance level.
Have someone go with you the first couple of times at least.

I didn't drive for chemo, but I was fine to drive for radiation. I think it would be up to you to determine how you feel. Good luck!

For Chemo it depends on what drugs you get with it. If you are doing A/C they often give benadryl and that will make you woozy. The nausea meds make you feel funny, but I was able to drive and I live 40 miles from the cancer center.
Radiation isn't supposed to keep you from functioning normal at all. I was told I may burn.
There is a difference between getting radiation to the breast or for instance colon. Good luck to you !

I had radiation for breast cancer, and I had no problem driving myself home.

definitely not. i just lost my day to cancer on thanksgiving day this year and after a week of going thru radiation therapy he had a stroke in right leg and could not stand or walk by him self til his death

I could drive fine after radiation....burns and all and I probably could have managed doing the same with Chemo too but you may want someone to go with you with each initial treatment just to be sure in case you don't tolerate the meds too well. I always had someone go with me to my chemo treatments but I did all of the radiation on my own.

I am not sure if they allow you to *-I am thinking you have to have someone in the waiting room for you.
