What are some tips to surviving radiation therapy?

I have a close friend going through radiation. 15 rounds and them more after that with a different machine.

a positive attitude and a lot of blind faith.

lots of antoxidents , blueberries, pomegranite, kombucha tea.

Get the cream that they have to ease the burn. Radiation gives sort of like a sunburn that can be painful. Use the cream several times a day. If this radiation is for the brain the hair will fall out. It grows back within 3 months after treatment is finished. If it is for the lung, the person will have the burn on the front of them and the back. Also they may have trouble swallowing. You can get a liquid for this that numbs the throat since the throat might get burnt to make eating possible. My husband had to go through 60 rounds, one a day every day until done of radiation for the brain and then 40 straight for the lung along with chemo. He had very little trouble except for the burn and swallowing.Good luck to your friend.

depending on the type of cancer that is being treated - the spots where the burns happen is different.
My mum had breast and was given radiation - in some spots on her chest and back where like 2degree sunburn.. she used a lot of moisture cream and sobeline (?sp) to assist..In some places she had a guaze bandage placed to assist with it..

A sense of humor and being able to laugh at yourself helps as well - she also said that it was a glowing experience and for "fun" had her nails painted with a polish that made them glow - she scared my dad the 1st time he saw it..

People deal with this treatment in there own way sometimes as well - but being there for them is a big help.. some days they are tired, others better..

there isn't much to do. my hair fell off after my radiation. but it grew again after 3-4 months. all you can do is to be there for your friend and pls never ever say i understand when your friend is telling you something because you dont understand unless you have been through it yourself. just listen to what your friend has got to say. good luck to your friend and you.

My father went through it. 30 sessions.
He never complained about any pain or discomfort.
Is only complaint as, he was very tired.
But that went away within a a few days after the final treatment.
Really, nothing to it, and he was age 75 when he went through it.

The only real problem, was, they would not let him drive, so a couple of us had to take turns providing transportation. I had my shift changed, so I took him in Mondays, so I could keep up to date with the doctor.
