What are some tips to surviving radiation therapy? |
I have a close friend going through radiation. 15 rounds and them more after that with a different machine. a positive attitude and a lot of blind faith. lots of antoxidents , blueberries, pomegranite, kombucha tea. Get the cream that they have to ease the burn. Radiation gives sort of like a sunburn that can be painful. Use the cream several times a day. If this radiation is for the brain the hair will fall out. It grows back within 3 months after treatment is finished. If it is for the lung, the person will have the burn on the front of them and the back. Also they may have trouble swallowing. You can get a liquid for this that numbs the throat since the throat might get burnt to make eating possible. My husband had to go through 60 rounds, one a day every day until done of radiation for the brain and then 40 straight for the lung along with chemo. He had very little trouble except for the burn and swallowing.Good luck to your friend. depending on the type of cancer that is being treated - the spots where the burns happen is different. there isn't much to do. my hair fell off after my radiation. but it grew again after 3-4 months. all you can do is to be there for your friend and pls never ever say i understand when your friend is telling you something because you dont understand unless you have been through it yourself. just listen to what your friend has got to say. good luck to your friend and you. My father went through it. 30 sessions. |
