How effective is radiation therapy?

why u ask on that here? u need to ask doctor. u think u gon get some answes that tell u to do radiaton? u crazy or lazy or too cheap to talk to a doctor. vinny b no doctor so he cant answer on that. get youself to a hospitol and talk to persons who know somthin on that. man!

I presume for cancer? What kind? Very effective in breast cancer and many other types. Like anything else this depends on the patient,what the type of cancer, and what stage. I don't think they would recommend it if they didn't believe it would be effective. Try WEBMD or one of the many cancer sites

radiation therapy could be very effective sometimes specially when the chemotherapy does not work well with some types of cancer, but on the other hand, radiotherapy has lots of side effects those really the person should concern specially the site of the body that will receive radiation, but still a type of treatment of some cancers.

I can only speak from personal experience. My husband had prostate cancer 5 years ago. He received radiation therapy and then had radioactive seeds implanted. He had his final visit with the radiologist a couple of weeks ago! So, in his case it was highly effective. I'm sure it works differently with each person. It's definitely worth trying. God bless!

There are multiple types of radiation therapy, each with different goals. Some radiation therapy is aimed at making sure cancer doesn't return, or to shrink a tumor before surgical removal. Sometimes radiation is used as a curative treatment. Sometimes the radiation is palliative, in other words to extend life or to reduce pain but knowing the therapy won't produce a cure. If you have bone cancer and it is very painful, often radiation can greatly reduce the pain in ways that drugs can't. You need to ask your radiation oncologist the type of radiation and the goal of treatment for any more details. good luck

I had a malignant pituitary germinoma tumor. I had 2 cycles of chemotherapy which got almost all of it and 5 days a week for 5 weeks of radiotherapy. The first few weeks of radiotherapy was hard (throwing up, dizzy, head sores). After then it was better. The end result was good, that it was all goneh. So far I believe that radiotherapy is very effective depending on the type of disease being treated.
