I recently started radiation therapy and it is really hurting my throat. What are some ideas for food? |
I'm getting it in my neck and chest, 8 times so far, and my throat is really bothering me. It hurts to swallow, I do have a numbing agent for my throat but it doesn't seem to work that well. Any ideas would help!! Thanks for the ideas guys. It sucks but I'll get through this!! radiation to your throat area, causes many difficulties. Soft non spicy foods, such as mash potatoes, pudding, hi protein foods, such as scrambled eggs, some protein drinks. Some you can blend yourself, some you can buy already made( max muscle ). The cancer association can also send you more ideas. I had cancer , but not of the throat area. Sometimes your appetite is decreased. good luck. debra Sorry for stating the obvious, but I guess it depends how bad the pain is. Have you tried soups? Pureed fruit? Baby food? Not very appetising, I know . . . When I had two operations basically back to back on my throat it was pretty sore, I can't imagine how badly you feel! But I remember that I drank chicken broth and ate stuff like ice cream, pudding and jello..... hope this helps good luck in your treatments! Make every swallow count! Drink freezing cold nutritional shakes like Boost. That way, you get your vitamins without the work of having to swallow hard foods. I know it's trite but popsicles will help with the swelling. You're getting there! Keep your head up! :) Get MouthKote oral moisturizer...and see a speech pathologist about dysphagia.
