What are the side effects of radiation therapy (beam type)? (Radiation will be directed to the neck)?

Radiation zaps your energy. You will feel very tired. It also can cause hair loss and nausea. There are things that the doctors can do for the nausea now so it shouldn't be a problem.

i'm not an authority on the subject...but my aunt is undergoin it at the moment, in the neck...she's tired alot has very little appetite and some nasua but so far nothing else...she's half way through at the moment...

Usual side effects include fatigue initially and a "sunburn" appearance to the skin. This may actually come and go over several months. How severe depends on the amount of radiation used and how broad of an area targeted. More serious side effects (but much rarer) can include inflammation of the deeper tissues (esophagus, trachea, thyroid, etc.) This used to be more common, but as radiation oncology has gotten better, they've reduced the total radiation dose and been able to target it much more accurately. It's fairly rare to see and easier to treat when it does occur.

I had 5 weeks of radion therapy, first couple i was really tired and sick to my stomach, after that though I was just tired. I had this treatment at my head. I don't believe that you would get that sick becasue it's directed toward your neck and not your stomach (where most poeple get sick)
