Does hair grow back in the radiation field after therapy is over? |
Does hair grow back in the radiation field after therapy is over? It should. You might even like what grows back - it often comes back wavy or curly. Mine grew back very wavy - now I have the hair that I used to pay for by getting perms! yes has grown back on several family members of mine. Yes, it will. my mom had cancer, and her hair grew back, but it was brown instead of blonde. Mine did not It depends on what dose of radiation your scalp receives. Hair follicles will be affected after ~800cGy but won't be permanent (if the scalp receives all of this dose). For low dosage brain irradiation...say 2000cGy prescribed to your brain, the it will come back in a few months but may have a different texture/colour. Anything >5000cGy then it will most likely be permanent. It also depends on the technique they use to give the treatment. If they use just 2 opposed radiation beams then the dosage to the skin surface will be high. Other techniques can be more skin sparing when multiple beams are used at multiple angles. |
