Can you recieve chemo therapy and radiation at the same time for cancer?

Can you recieve chemo therapy and radiation at the same time for cancer?

You can receive both chemo and radiation during the same time span for cancer. It all depends on exactly what type of Cancer it is though. It also depends on the progression or stage of the disease. If the cancer is caught early, many doctor's will try to get rid of the cancer with just chemo first. Radiation is a leading cause of second cancers in patients. What type of cancer are you asking about?

I don't know that you'd want radiation. Radiation is what causes cancer in many cases.
But if radiation is a suitable cure for cancer, I know that chemotherapy is very painful and full of stress, so two treatments at the same time probably wouldn't feel too good.

My Mom is going through this right now - She is getting a lot of radiation and is scheduled for 10 sessions of chemo every 21 days.

Doctors tell us that while chemo has not changed much over the years, the drugs to lessen the severity of the side effects has.

Yes. My son did both at the same time.

Yes, and there are new findings that suggest that doing both treatments at the same time improve survival rates. You don't mention the type of cancer, but if it is breast, check out www.breastcancer.org. Best of luck.
