What is the effect of too much radiation exposure?

Someone was asking me this question, since he undergone chest x-ray 3 times in one day. What should be done to recover or reverse the effect of radiation?

In all honesty, 3 chest x-rays are not that much. Your friend has probaby gotten far more radiation by watching television, using a computer, traveling by air, playing outside on a sunny day, and just by simply living than he/she did via the x-rays. A patient recieving three chest x-rays in one day is not that uncommon at all. I have seen patients in the ERs that I have worked in recieve 3 chest x-rays in addition to 2 abdominal x-rays and numerous other x-rays and several CAT scans. It really is not that much radiation. Now, if you are pregnant, or if you are around it all of the time, then that is a different story.
Just as an aside, the rule of thumb that I was taught in combat medicine was the rule of vomitting. The sooner that a person vomits after radiation exposure, the worse their degree of radiation sickness. Vomit in less than 2-4 hours and you have a severe case, probably will die. Vomit in 4-12 hours and you have moderate case, they will get pretty sick. No vomitting after 24 hours then radiation sickness is probably not present or is very mild. Of course, I am speaking of severe, non-stop hurling.

children have higher exposure limits than adults do. an adult could get a chest x-ray every day for a year and not reach their limit
why dont you search it on the net
AND if your friend doesnt want to have this many x-rays in one day, he has the right to refuse them, unless there are major changes in his medical conditions one a day to monitor progress should suffice,
THIS IS JUST MY OPINION

um, there usually isnt a way to 'recover' , 3 xrays isnt so bad... hoepfully he has had children and such..lol.

as a nurse and being surrounded by radiation so much, we wear alot of lead aprons and stuff to protect, but their are times when this isnt possible, and we are exposed to radiation...

excess exposure can lead to infertility and other things, but ideally, 3 x-rays in one day, shouldnt be too bad, i was told once i shouldnt have more than 20 in my life...

consult GP or specialist if really worried about this...

3 x-rays in a day isn't that dangerous. there are other types of x-ray examinations that require more than that in one sitting.

what should bother you is why there had to be 3 chest x-rays done. did the examination call for it or was it just a single x-ray that had to be repeated twice? if so, then it doesn't speak well about the competence of the technician doing the procedure.
