Genetic changes due to radiation exposure? |
I'm going out with someone who's father was a surveyer at bomb sites. He was exposed to radiation and this guy I'm with enjoyed sitting on his father's lap as a child in the winter because it was warm. I'm wanting to know if it is possible that this guy could pass on genetic defects to his own children since he was possibly exposed to radiation when he would sit on his father's lap. Could it have affected him to where birth defects could be inherited in his children? Oh and his father passed away a few years ago from lung cancer. He was in his late 60s. radiation is a tricky thing, it can lay dorman for years in the body, have him get a radiation test done through his doctor, very easy test. that is entirely possible but not probable. Have him get checked out by a doctor NO. Your boyfriend did not get significant radiation from his father(and likely did not get any radiation from his father). The effects of radiation varies with the amount of dose received. I'm sure your guy's father wore protective gear when he was working. The dose for genetic mutations is pretty high. Plus, his lap being warm didn't have anything to do with radiation... If he had received enough radiation that his lap was warm, he probably wouldn't be around to talk about it. |
