Er. Okay, methimazole is supposed to interfere with the activity of your thyroid, but does not cause it to disappear. However, there is apparently a rare side effect on the white blood cells whose symptoms include a sore throat. Considering the colds and flus going around, I'd usually guess a sore throat would be from a virus, but you might want to check with your doctor to rule out the alternative.

I'm not quite sure what you're worried about regarding the iodine therapy. If it's been confirmed that the hyperthyroidism was a misdiagnosis, it seems unlikely that you would receive radioactive iodine therapy, since I don't know of using that to treat anything else.

I saw this earlier in a question where someone got a cat scan and now everything is shrinking on them (seriously) even their head and stuff. Call your doctor immediately.
