As far as I know, the effect of exposure to any radioactive element are about the same. Tissues are affected, blood is affected. Cells "forget' how to function properly and develop all sorts of cancer-like desease. Hair falls out, but that's minor effect, by comparison. Hair can actually grow back if the person survives.
