Will I need a rabies shot? |
The other night while I was walking home from my aunt's house, her neighbor's cat followed us home. We've seen the cat around many times and it's friendly. I was petting it (which was stupid), and once, it nibbled on my finger. Not really a bite, since it didn't bleed or puncture the skin or anything. Later on that night, I accidentally chewed on that particular finger absentmindedly (weird habit, I know), and when I realized what I did that's when I started to get nervous about rabies. You should be fine :) If it's really eating away at you, try and contact the owner and ask for proof of the cat's updated vaccinations No, I would'nt worry if I were you. But if you get a fever or the shakes you should get checked out. If the cat had it's shots you're cool. Cats can get rabies but aren't really notorious carriers. Now if you were bit by a wild squirrel, rat or raccoon I'd be worried. By the way the biggest carrier of rabies are bats. |
