Worried about Rabies?!?

walking home from school today i saw a dead possum and i almost stepped on it, but i think i stepped on the blood alittle bit. so can the animal's blood still have rabies even when its dead? And if there is how long does the rabies blood last outside the body?and what if the blood is dry, is that a sign that the rabies blood is dead? Because when i stepped in it, when i got home i stepped all around my house with those shoes, and i don't want to give it to my family members?SO Please help.

People usually get get rabies from the bite of a rabid animal. It is also possible, but quite rare, that people may get rabies if infectious material from a rabid animal, such as saliva, gets directly into their eyes, nose, mouth, or a wound.
Non-bite exposures to rabies are very rare. Scratches, abrasions, open wounds, or mucous membranes contaminated with saliva or other potentially infectious material (such as brain tissue) from a rabid animal constitute non-bite exposures. Occasionally reports of non-bite exposure are such that postexposure prophylaxis is given.
Inhalation of aerosolized rabies virus is also a potential non-bite route of exposure, but other than laboratory workers, most people are unlikely to encounter an aerosol of rabies virus. Other contact, such as petting a rabid animal or contact with the blood, urine or feces (e.g., guano) of a rabid animal, does not constitute an exposure and is not an indication for prophylaxis.

don't worry you're alright. check out web md, but you are alright.

The only way to transmit rabies is from the saliva, from a bite!

No, the rabies virus will not live outside the host.

Nothing to be alarmed about!

you can only get rabies if your bitten by an infected animal, see a vet, they will inform you more, and you should have phoned the sanitation dept, to have the dead animal removed.

i just had this on a human disease test in nursing school i thought that all animals could get rabies but I guess that possums generally dont it has to do with their body temp or something. you are gonna be fine
