Can you get rabies if a squirrel did not bite you but got blood on your fingers? |
The squirrel was a baby who fell from his nest. The blood was comming out of his mouth. No foaming of the mouth. This happened in a park in Chicago. I bite my nails and am wondering if I may have small cuts in my fingers where the rabies virus could infect me through. I have already had rabies shots abt 6yrs ago. Will I have to take the two more shots suggested or will I be okay with no shots since squirrels usually do not contract rabies and the squirrel did not bite me. Thanks!! Usually contact has to be made from saliva directly into the blood stream and squirrles are not usually as prone to carry the rabies virus. The only way to know for sure is to have its head examined by the state. (Brain to be exact). When in doubt; however, contact your doctor pronto. Better safe than sorry! Good I am glad that your doc put you at ease!! Report It No you don't. Don't worry! :-) |
