How can rabies be transmitted from one person to another? |
my friend claimed that he ripped a squirrel in half (in an attempt to get it out of his dog's mouth) and the blood went all over his hands (which had cuts). and he did not get a rabies shot or anything.. rabies is transmitted through saliva or can be through being scratched by an infected animals nails, but the good news for your friend is that squirrels are VERY rare carriers of rabies, but what your friend can do if he's worried is go get the preventative shot which is one dose of serum and then there's 5 subsequent shots that you get in the arm so that if the animal was rabid and did possibly infect him, he won't get it. But it can def. be transmitted through air when someone coughs or sneezes etc. if they were to have it and not know it yet. that person has to bite you and their saliva has to enter ur blood stream Rabies is transmitted via your mucus membranes (eyes, nose, mouth). It would have to be airborne or transferred via a bodily fluid. |
