Rabies? I got bitten on my finger by a dog but its just a light bite.?

The dog lightly bit my finger,it felt like a hammer hit my finger but i am not bleeding on the finger. Could rabies be transmitted? Should i see a doc?

Is this a known dog, or a stray? Did it break the skin?

If the dog is a known dog (the guy next door's, etc.), and there is a documented up to date rabies vaccination for the dog, there is unlikely to be a problem. Sometimes it is necessary to isolate a dog, and see if he begins acting strangely, especially if there is no documented vaccination. If the dog is a stray or unknown to you, and the skin may have been broken, DO see a doctor. Rabies is unlikely, but very serious. You would never want to wait until you have symptoms to find out that you may have it.

If youre not bleeding then i think its okay

If the skin isn't broken you have not got rabies.
However, if you think the DOG might be rabid it's kind of your civic duty to find out before someone did get bitten and infected, don'tya think?

just rush to the doctor. dont take any chances. though the chances of contracting rabbies are minimal. for rabbies to be transmitted the dog who had bitten you must have rabbies. please consult the doctor. dont take any risk

Sure, spend $300 on, well, the dog is normal you say? Hmmm, no skin was broken, yes, yes, ok, well then, after taking about ten times more blood than the dog would have drawn if he had broken skin, we have concluded that you don't have rabies, but you are jewish and have a slight sniffle that you can take these pills for. But it won't fix the sniffle.

yes e ven is you didn't bleed ,
o at lest check with the doctor to make sure is you don't have
rabies

and if you have it put a report with Animal Control or better with the owner

Agree with psyguy. Because if you wait until you have rabies symptoms, you'll die. Only one person has survived symptomatic rabies.

If the skin was not broken, then your risk of contracting rabies is almost nill. What you can do is if you know the owner of the dog, go to their door, tell them what happened and ask if the dog is current on their rabies shots. That should give you the final answer as to your risk.
