Rabies Please Help!? |
Hi. Just today in class we were dissecting owl pellets (owl vomit) which contains body parts of rats, mice and other rodents. The student who I was working with was trying to hold a rat's tooth under the light, and accidentally scratched me on the back of my neck. Our teacher had told us that the owl pellets were sterilized, but I'm just a little worried, I mean I don't want to get rabies. So, I was wondering If you could tell me if the virus can be transmitted through a dead animals teeth, and if the sterilization killed the virus if it was there. Thanks If your teacher said the owl pellets were sterilized than you shouldn't worry. I would however, switch lab partners. He or she sounds like an idiot. How does someone scratch you accidentally????????????? Rabies dies when airborn for more than a few minutes...either way you'd be fine. Both of the previous answers are correct. The scientific supply house that sells the owl pellets must make sure they are sterilzed before sale. |
