A question on rabies...?

My girlfriend was bitten by a domestic dog about 4 days ago. I understand that there is supposed to be a 10 day quaratine of the dog to make sure that it was not infected with the rabies virus at the time of the bite, but this did not happen with the dog that bit her. The owners shot the dog on the night of the incident, however, supposedly the dog was up to date on its vaccinations. I have not seen a copy of the vaccination reports but apparently my girlfriends mother has. I guess the thing that makes me wonder about all of this is that it was a hunting dog so it is outside a bit and probably would have more exposure to rabies than your normal house dog and also the dog ran up and bit my girlfriend in the leg from behind, completely unprovoked. It is my understanding that this dog has had a reputation for being a mean dog, but it still makes you wonder.
What Im getting at is this, my girlfriend is upset that I will not kiss her. I am a big worry wort, but should I kiss her?

yeah she did not go to the doctor, but her parents know a doctor and they explained what happened to her and he prescribed her antibiotics. but she never actually saw a doctor. if she by some horrible chance had rabies, wouldnt i contract it by kissing her?

Kissing your girlfriend right now should be the last of your worries. Rabies can be fatal, if she did contract rabies, she needs to go to the hosptial as soon as possible, she can die from it or can have permanent brain damage. She needs to go to the doctors as soon as possible, it is a very serious disease!!!!!! In Iraq, there was a guy that took a stray puppy in to take care of it. After about a week he came down with a bad fever and said his arm felt like they were always twitching, he became worse real fast and we flew him to Germany, come to find out he contracted rabies from the puppy, and all the puppy did was scratch his arms. Take her to the hospital now!!!!

Even if a dog had rabbies shots the dog could possibly still have rabbies. I would demand that they take the body to the Vet to be examined. And you should contact the ASPCA, because it is illegal to kill an animal. The ASPCA will force the owners to have the dog tested.

Don't worry. If the vaccinations are up to date the dog is OK. Very few animals actually contact rabies and usually rabies season is in the spring. The dog had a reputation for being mean and your girl-friend just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They did the quarantine period but would also do blood tests. If there was any problems they would have her taking shots.

You can kiss your girlfriend.

Regarding the rabies, your girlfriend's parents should report the dog bite. The owner has already killed the dog. The dog's brain needs to be examined to determine if the dog had rabies. The dog is probably fine since the shots were up to date.

A owner of the dog has to supply the dogs rabies certificate to you,your doctor,health dept,police or whoever is involved with this case,Very few human to human rabies cases happen and its usually with organ transplants in foreign countries.Hunting dogs who are poorly trained can become agressive because a few seem to always be "on the hunt" so your girlfriend was problaly just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Did she go to the doctors after this? She should have to get it cleaned and also documented.Watch for signs of infection which is a way bigger risk than rabies and dont worry about kissing her,thats just a waste of your energy to worry about that.

Don't worry about yourself int his case, worry about your girlfriend. She should see a doctor. The treatment for rabies can be painful and have some side effects, but they are not ANYTHING like dying of rabies!

If the dog was vaccinated, she likely didn't get it. But still a doctor must see her. And the dead dog's head needs to be examined.

At first, I was quite impressed that you worried a lot on your girlfriend's case BUT when the real question popped out...you are more concern of yourself. How can you possibly think of that now when rabies is fatal..can kill fast.Anyway, if you do love her..take her immediately to a doctor to be observed.

The dog's head should have been examined by a pathologist, to see if the dog had rabies. By all means, let a doctor examine your girlfriend.
