Can a pet hampster have/transmit rabies?

I was bitten on the finger by my brother's pet hampster. It bled a for a suprisingly long time considering the tiny size of the wound.

I know that rabies can be transmitted by the bite of a mammal, and I know that it is recommended to get a rabies shot if you are bitten by any wild mammal. Should I get one? Can pet hampsters even have or transmit rabies?

Warm blooded animals get, carry and transmit Rabies.
BUT
They have to be bitten by an infected animal. Cage pets have very little opportunity to be infected.
You're fine.

isn't it the desease which happens to wild animals and that's how pets can catch it - by getting in contact with wild animals? especially foxes re prone to that. so if your hamster wasn't wondering the forest at night i think u will be fine

no, you can't get rabies from your brothers hamster. second, your brothers hamster is not a wild animal, unless you live in the wild as well. lol leave the hamster alone and it wont bite you. it probably felt threatend, so stop abuseing the poor animal! Third, you probably bleed alot because some people bleed more than others.
