Can I Get Rabies From An Infected Human? |
Yesterday My Fiance's Cat turned into a different animal. She went from being a sweet cat to a possessed animal in a matter of two hours. She was thrashing herself around, attacking mid-air, drouling and making a growling/hissing sound we had never heard before. My fiance attempted to put his cat into a cage to bring her to the vet thinking she was sick. When he went to pick her up she attacked him with her nails making long cuts all over his hand. They called animal control and they came out to get the cat. Unfotunately after hours of attempting to calm her down they were unsuccessul and it resulted in putting the cat down. My fiance went to the doctor and got a tetanus shot in case the cat had been infected with rabies. I have researched a bunch of websites and found numerous answers but none of them conclusive. I need to know if indeed he is infected (we find out next week) is there anything I need to worry about for myself? Can I get rabies from him? if so, how is it transmitted? Rabies is a very highly contagious disease though more common in animals, humans can and have gotten rabies as well. It is possible for humans to spread rabies the same way animals do. The infected human would have to bite or somehow break the skin in the other human while leaving saliva from the infected human on the broken skin of the other human. See its in the saliva that rabies is spread. If I were you I would not take a chance with your fiance. Go to the hospital and have him checked. Treatment for rabies is not fun. your highness- thank you aswell for your input. It is a very scary thought to think there is that possibility of death... Report It i want to thank everybody for their help and support. We have just received a phone call from the autopsy results and the tests for rabies were all negative. it seems oddly enough she died of natural causes. or at least thats what we were told. (sure didnt look like it) There is a very very slim chance you can get it from another human, but yes, it is possible. It can be transmitted through things like kissing and sharing cups and such, and through cuts on you. It is transmissible by the blood. I suspect it might also be through sexual fluid exchange too, but don't quote me on that. I'm fairly certain exchange of saliva wouldn't do it. Yes, you can get rabies from the saliva of any infected person. |
