Help please.... sick baby?

DD 20mths has had recurrent fevers for the past 2 mths. it started with measles and when the rash cleared up the fevers and cough continued. she was given a round of antibiotics which helped until it was completed and the symptoms returned. blood tests showed a bactieral infection and an x ray has shown pneumonia at which point the dr gave her another course of amoxy she is on a nebulizer as needed (helped at first, not finding it is making a huge difference anymore). she finished 2 nd course of amoxy yesterday and fevers r back today ( 38 earlier now reduced to 37 with panadol) anyway am i over reacting or is this just not good enough? 2 mths, her cough is getting worse, its obvious the amoxy isnt strong enough and surely its not good for her to be on panadol for so long?

so my main q should i take her to ER and hoppefully she will get seen by a peadiatricion (sp?) and some light will be shed on the situation. also does anyone know of a good dr on the suny coast?

take her to the ER the infection has not cleared up and if left untreated or undertreated as this case might be can cause scarring on the lungs and asthma could develope.

The sunny coast is a broad area. Yes, I would take her to the hospital. Some people would wait. I don't think it's worth the risk. I would have them do extensive testing. Or refer you to someone who can. Let me know how it turns out. Best wishes.

It does sound like the pneumonia hasn't resolved. I would take her to the dr right away. Be sure to tell them the history. She most likely needs a stronger antibiotic or perhaps an antifungal.

Measles complications and deaths are most common in infants less than twelve months old and in adults.

The most common causes of death are pneumonia or an infection of the lungs, and encephalitis or an intense swelling of the brain.

I am surprised that your Doctor did not recommend hospitalisation, especially regarding her tender age and the dangerous implications of pneumonia.

It is quite common for the cough to persist longer than the Measles but at 8 weeks, you should be seeking another opinion, preferably from a Hospital based Specialist.

I don't know what type of bacterial infection she has, so I can't really recommend anything specific. There is an excellent bacterial disinfectant available that is non-toxic, that you may like to try. It kills most known pathogens but leaves the good bacteria alone.

Overuse of Antibiotics can lead to more complex problems, so be careful with their use.

I would go straight to the emergency room.Tell them the history and do not let them put you off.Go to a different specialist and be persistant that something is not right.Have them do testing and more testing.Tell them you want a different antibiotic.Never think you are overreacting. This is your child and you know them better than anyone else.Better to be safe than sorry!
