Anyone know anything about pulmonary fibrosis?

Husband has been diagnosed and need some support and feed back from others.

pumonary fibrosis is a restrictive airway disease (there are two types of airway diseases copd is obstrucitve)
Pulmonary fibrosis is most often caused by stuf that comes from the workign enviroment ie: the coal miners have black lung which is pulmonary fibrosis.
it is not curable, however with the right docs (pulmonologist only) they can make him breathe a lot better
I am a daugter of a coal miner who had black lung, and lung cancer, I lost him when I was 12, and now because of being around so many people who have sufferend black lung I am a Respiratory Therapist, so I can help people who were like my father.

Imagine the lungs having sacs of grapes in them (the alveoli) with fibrosis the stuff being coal dust, silica, etc acts like a cement in the walls of the alveoli, making them very stiff. This in turn makes it very hard for the person to breathe.

The link sent above contain basic information, but I am sorry to say that it is not an easy disease. It is usually progressive and in some point the patient will need oxygen support and may need several hospitalizations and even ICU. I think the best option is to get enrolled in a clinical trials that try new medications on patient as there is no any known effective treatment now adays. Go to the nearest university hospital and ask there or check the American Thoracic Society. Good luck.
